San Francisco Event Venues
The Pearl SF
Jack Simpson Photography is a San Francisco corporate event photographer with deep, hands-on experience at The Pearl, a multilevel creative venue in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood at 601 19th Street. We have photographed more than 10 events at The Pearl since 2018, making it one of the venues we know best in the city.
Our history at The Pearl spans startup demo days, corporate conferences, and professional gatherings of all sizes. Most recently, we served as the lead photography team for Pear VC’s PearX W26 Demo Day on April 2, 2026, a full-day event bringing together the Winter 2026 cohort of pre-seed founders and investors from across the Bay Area.
Whether you are planning a startup demo day, investor event, corporate conference, product launch, or evening reception at The Pearl, our team brings genuine venue familiarity, fast delivery, and a track record that spans nearly a decade at this space.

The Venue
What makes The Pearl SF unique for corporate events?
The Pearl is a multilevel private event venue in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood, accommodating up to 800 guests across approximately 9,300 square feet. The venue’s distinct spaces include a main floor with a permanent in-house bar, a mezzanine with bay views and railing overlooking the main floor, a 4,655-square-foot porcelain-tiled rooftop terrace (voted the number one rooftop bar in San Francisco by Time Out), and School Night, a self-contained 1,388 square-foot bar space available for smaller groups of 100 or fewer.
The Pearl is a true blank canvas. Unlike venues with fixed staging and house production, The Pearl gives event producers the freedom to bring in their own audiovisual, lighting, and staging configurations. This creates a high-energy, visually distinctive event experience, and it means the photography conditions change significantly depending on how each organizer chooses to configure the space.
For corporate events, this flexibility is a major asset. The Pearl has hosted tech company conferences, venture capital demo days, product launches, and investor receptions alongside its wedding and social event calendar. The venue’s industrial-chic aesthetic, with permanent art installations by San Francisco artist Alexis Laurent, provides a visually compelling backdrop that photographs exceptionally well when you know how to work with it.
From a photography standpoint, The Pearl’s multi-level layout creates both opportunity and complexity. Great images come from understanding how light behaves on each floor, how to position during keynotes and founder pitches on the main floor, when to use the mezzanine as an elevated shooting position, and how the rooftop transitions from afternoon daylight to evening ambient light. Ten events at this venue give us that knowledge firsthand.

Our Work at The Pearl SF
Jack Simpson Photography has photographed over 10 events at The Pearl since 2018. Our most recent engagement was one of the largest and most logistically complex.
Pear VC – PearX W26 Demo Day
On April 2, 2026, Pear VC held its PearX Winter 2026 Demo Day at The Pearl, the culminating event of their 12-week pre-seed accelerator program. PearX is one of the most selective early-stage startup programs in San Francisco, with cohorts of approximately 20 companies that have included alumni such as DoorDash, Dropbox, Vanta, Aurora Solar, and Guardant Health.
Demo Day is the most significant event on the Pear calendar: the moment when each cohort company steps out of stealth to pitch a curated audience of venture capital general partners and senior partners from across the Bay Area investor community.
Jack Simpson Photography served as the lead event photography team. The event ran from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM across The Pearl’s full venue, with approximately 200 guests in attendance.
Coverage scope
Full event documentation including founder pitches on the main stage, investor networking sessions, sponsor and partner areas, and the cohort group portrait, a milestone image representing each company’s emergence from stealth.
On-site headshots
Individual portraits of Pear VC staff and startup founders, executed on the mezzanine level to keep the portrait station separate from the main event flow without disrupting coverage of the main floor below.
Delivery
More than 650 fully edited photographs delivered within two business days, organized into dedicated galleries by category, including headshots, team photos, founder portraits, networking, and event coverage, making it easy for the Pear marketing team to find and use specific images immediately.

Venue Knowledge
What should an event photographer know about The Pearl SF?
The Pearl is one of San Francisco’s most challenging venues to photograph well so it is crucial to bring an experienced photographer. Here is what matters most.
The blank canvas lighting challenge
Unlike production venues that provide house lighting optimized for events, The Pearl is a true blank canvas. The main floor features warm ambient lighting and a dramatic permanent art installation. Event-specific lighting, such as stage wash, spotlights, LED panels, and colored uplighting, varies entirely based on what the event producer brings in.
Our approach: We assess the actual lighting configuration on arrival and adapt our exposure and flash technique accordingly. For pitch-format events like PearX Demo Day, we work primarily with the available stage lighting supplemented by careful off-camera flash to keep speakers well-lit without washing out the room. For receptions and networking, we rely on the venue’s warm ambient light and bounce flash to maintain a natural, unposed feel across candid coverage.
Multi-level coverage across the main floor, mezzanine, and rooftop
The Pearl’s three primary spaces, the main floor, mezzanine, and rooftop, each have their own character and require different photography techniques. The mezzanine provides an excellent elevated angle for wide keynote and pitch coverage of the main floor below. The rooftop transitions dramatically from daytime natural light to evening ambient and string-light glow. Moving between floors efficiently, without missing critical moments on any level, is a coverage challenge that rewards preparation.
Our approach: We work from the event run-of-show and build a floor-by-floor coverage rotation before the event begins. For PearX W26, we used the mezzanine as both a shooting position for main floor pitch coverage and as the location for the on-site headshot station, keeping portrait sessions running continuously without pulling us off the main floor during active presentations.

Why It Matters
Why hire a photographer who knows The Pearl?
Venue experience at The Pearl pays off in specific, concrete ways. A photographer who has worked The Pearl multiple times understands how to position on the mezzanine for clean main floor coverage, how the mixed ambient and stage lighting varies based on each event’s production setup, where portrait sessions work best without disrupting the main event flow, how rooftop light shifts through the day, and how to move between levels efficiently during a multi-track program.
This is knowledge you can’t absorb from a venue walkthrough the morning of the event. It comes from repeated experience under real event conditions at the same venue for nearly a decade.
Having photographed more than 10 events at The Pearl since 2018, we bring that accumulated familiarity to every engagement at this venue. We have seen how this space works across formats and know how to make it look its best in every frame.
